Talon's Journey

Description

Omfg.... I can't even accurately estimate the number of hours put into this piece... approximately 3 weeks, with about 3-5 hours everyday (minus weekends). I'm ambitious. Now I get to paint another, with the same theme, in less than that time. For one, it's going to be white... cause I'm almost out of black and Sap Green. Lawl.

So... the idea was to paint a book cover for my novel in progress, "The Changeling's Heart". EPIC!!! This one depicts one of the traveling groups in the book, consisting of Talon (far right), Direndria, and Kiranark in the back. OMFG!!

Favorite part: the white horse. Ok so I drew (and painted), this WHOLE thing without references. I didn't even have an original sketch before I drew it on the canvas. It was born in my mind and painted. It turned out well. But anyway, in some undistilled spurt of miraculousness, I drew that horse in the front without references, made it look good, and then painted it and made it look even better. With the exception of the front legs looking a little wonky, I'm quite pleased.

Couldn't get a really good image of it, so I did some touch ups in photoshop. Probably could do more, but I don't want to make it look too much like I didn't paint it by hand.

....it is finished.

wow that's absolutely amazing work. I love the highlights on the grass and how the branches extend into the other side where the water is. Almost like a giant rift separting the darker green colors from the watery blue. Fantastic job.
